Villanova football added another verbal commitment for the 2014 recruiting class yesterday, their first since August 5th. Holy Spirit (NJ) linebacker Jeff Steeb made it official on Veterans Day, giving his verbal commitment to play at Villanova next season.

The resident of Mullica Township in South Jersey checks in at 6-3 and 215-pounds and has been a key piece for Holy Spirit this season, emerging as one of the Cape-Atlantic League's top linebackers after playing Safety during his first two seasons. He follows a long line of Cape-Atlantic standouts who have gone on to play at Villanova, including Matt Szczur and current junior safety Joe Sarnese (also a Holy Spirit alum).

Steeb was named the number-two high school linebacker in New Jersey by NJ.com prior to the season. He is a hard-hitter who has the skills to shed blockers and get to the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage.

"Jeff has great athletic ability and great instincts," Holy Spirit coach John Iannucci told the Press of Atlantic City. "He's getting better and better and his best games are ahead of him."

"I've always been a big fan of Villanova," Steeb told the Press.

Steeb visited over 'Nova's homecoming weekend, a loss to Maine, who have taken control in the CAA this season. He also attended a summer football camp prior to that.

"I toured the campus and it's just beautiful," Steeb told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I like that it's a good academic school and I like the football program. I like the way the coaches treat you."

He also held an offer from Delaware.

This is the eighth known verbal commit for Villanova's 2014 class. Steeb joins DB Rob RolleOL Rick YoungWR Alessandro PadovaniK Steve WeylerQB Zach BednarczykOL Chris Buchalski and DB Mark Clements.
