According to Adam Zagoria's report, Villanova has made the first cut for 2016 forward Omari Spellman. The 6'8" MacDuffie School (MA) star is considered the number-five center in his recruiting class according to 247Sports.com.
Spellman's first cut drops his list of schools to 15, which leaves the field relatively wide open for his services. Outside of Villanova, the remaining suitors include: Kentucky, Ohio State, UCLA, UConn, Pitt, Arizona, Miami, West Virginia, Virginia, Florida, Indiana, Wake Forest, St. John's and Seton Hall. Among those schools, Zags reports that he has visited Pittsburgh so far, and he was photographed at Villanova for Hoops Mania this season.
Jay Wright has certainly been showing the big man some love on the recruiting trail, but the other coaches involved have also been hot on his trail.
He is known as a good ball handler at the forward position and is perhaps capable of becoming a prototypical stretch-four before he enters college. He already has a good perimeter game, but has been adding muscle as well, which will help his inside game flourish.
