Villanova Basketball Recruiting: Las Vegas Live Period Preview

After this we can finally zero in on real live sports.

NCAA Basketball: Big East Conference Tournament-Creighton vs Villanova Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

At long last, the final July Live Period is here. Things kick off again tonight at 5pm and finish again on Sunday at 5pm. Sin City (that’s Las Vegas for all you non-cool folks) will serve as the central location this week for coaches from all over the country.

Since the sneaker circuits have reached their conclusion, every year we’ll see players swap squads for this last event to play with friends. For example, Jahvon Quinerly and Naz Reid are playing with the NJ Playaz in Las Vegas.

There are a few events back East over the weekend (Live in AC, Elevate Hoops) that ‘Nova may attend, but I’d expect the Villanova Wildcats staff to be in Las Vegas for the majority of the week.

Here are the events to know about:

The 8

I believe Chris Paul started this event a few years ago, which typically brings in the “best” EYBL teams to Las Vegas. This year the event has 16 teams. Go figure! Here are the two brackets and schedule for The 8 event.

Players we care about:

Las Vegas Fab 48 Tip-Off Challenge

This one-night event takes place at Bishop Gorman High School and serves as a showcase event on Wednesday night. The full schedule can be found here, but these are the notable games for Villanova fans:

(And yes, I realize that these events both think they have Team Final and the NJ Playaz. I’d bank on both of those teams playing at The 8.)

5pm PST: Team Breakdown (Elijah Weaver) vs. NJ Playaz (Jahvon Quinerly, Jalen Carey, Paul Mulcahy)

5pm PST: Team Final (Cameron Reddish, Mikeal Jones) vs. Texas Pro

6:10pm PST: Team Rio (Bryan Antoine, Scottie Lewis) vs. Expressions Elite

7:20pm PST: WE-R-1 (Isaiah Wong) vs. Pro Skills Elite

9:40pm PST: WE-R-1 16U (Eric Dixon) vs. Team Takeover 16U

Las Vegas Fab 48

The full event features 5 divisions at the 17U level (holy crap), but the invite-only event is the top tier that we’ll focus on. You can see the full schedule for all age groups here, but here are the players expected to participate:

(Yes, again, this event thinks they’ll have Team Final and the Playaz. Doubtful.)

adidas Summer Championships

The adidas circuit rolls on whereas the Fab 48 combines both Nike and UA teams. You can see the full schedule here.

Point guard target David Duke (Mass Rivals) is the main attraction here for Villanova fans, though 2019 offer Armando Bacot (Team Loaded VA) is expected to play as well
