Scottie Lewis cuts his list to 7 including Villanova

The 5 star guard is one step closer to his decision

NCAA Basketball: Columbia at Villanova Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Class of 2019 5-star guard Scottie Lewis narrowed his list to 7 schools yesterday, and Villanova was among those making the cut.

Joining Villanova on the list were Duke, Florida, Harvard, Kentucky, St. John’s, and Stanford. The Wildcats are among the favorites to land the New Jersey native, and he’s been speaking highly of them for a while now.

I’ve always been a big fan of theirs honestly and that goes for outside of basketball too. Philadelphia is a great spot, its right in my backyard and close to a lot of people I care about. I think staying close to people like that is important. Coach Jay Wright and Kyle Neptune both have my back and will surround me with great guys who want to win and all have the same goal.

Lewis has also pointed out how important academics will be in his decision.

I’ve always let people know that I am more than just a basketball player I would bring a lot more to the program and to the school outside of basketball. I think using my voice on campus as an athlete will do more as well. I think all of this is something I’d bring to the table, which I think is important for me to find a school that allows that.

The Wildcats seem to be in the unique position to offer Lewis everything he’s looking for at the next level. Villanova is an elite program that prepares players for both the NBA and life. It’s geographically close to home, and offers the academic piece beyond the court the young guard is looking for. The relationship the coaching staff has established with Lewis has them strongly positioned as his recruitment continues.
