Villanova Basketball Recruiting: Offers and Updates for the Class of 2021

Four recruits picked up offers from the WIldcats over the weekend.

It was a busy few days for the Villanova coaching staff as reports of offers and interest came in for multiple recruits. The weekend marked the opening of coaches ability to make offers to the class of 2021, so the coaches were busy. You know it’s a big deal when Jay Wright and the rest of college’s top coaches make their way out to see the prospects first hand.

The WIldcats still have one open scholarship for the Class of 2020, with three additional scholarships set to open up in 2021. Villanova made four offers on Saturday and reached out to at least two more prospects, so let’s jump right in to all of the updates from recruits we’re tracking.

New Offers

A.J. Griffin | 5-Star SF | White Plains, NY

As one of the Top 10 players in the class of 2021, Griffin is already seeing the offers fly in from many of the top tier programs. Duke, UCLA, Kansas already have offers in alongside Nova, just to name a few. It’ll be a while before we see who jumps out in front on this one, but the Wildcats do appear to be the most “local” of the big names vying for the New York native.

Max Christie | 5-Star SG | Rolling Meadows, IL

Christie is quickly picking up offers, and will be another hot commodity as the #2 ranked SG per 247. Villanova doesn’t pull in a ton of recruits from the Mid-West, but the last two 5-Stars from the region were Jalen Brunson and Omari Spellman. Let’s hope Christie follows in their footsteps.

Devin Askew | 5-Star CG | Santa Ana, CA

Askew is the closest to a point guard Wright has extended an offer in the class, but you can expect that to become a priority. Collin Gillespie will have graduated when the 2021 group gets to campus, and Wright will need another ball handler in the rotation, if not someone to take over the lead guard position.

Trevor Keels | 4-Star SG | Fairfax, VA

Trevor Keels comes from a growing pipeline in Northern Virginia for the Wildcats. Brandon Slater went to the same high school, and Team Take Over has had a number of its alumni join Jay Wright’s squad. He’s one to keep an eye on.

Other Updates

Trey Patterson | 5-Star SF | Somerset, NJ

Patterson is the top 2021 prospect from New Jersey, and would be a great addition to Villanova’s new persona as “Wing U”. Don’t be surprised if an offer is coming soon.

John Camden | 4-Star SF | Wayne, PA

Camden is literally just down the road from Villanova, so we’re pretty sure the coaching staff has gotten pretty familiar with his game. Villanova has yet to offer the sophomore, but one could be on the way with a number of other big name programs poking their noses around Villanova’s back yard.

Terrence Clarke | 5-Star SG | Boston, MA

Sometimes no news can be just as telling on the recruiting trail. Villanova has not been mentioned as one of the schools to reach out to Clarke, someone the staff had been keeping an eye on. That doesn’t mean they’re not still in on him, but this recruitment may have cooled.

Stay tuned for all of Villanova’s recruiting updates for both 2021 and the Class of 2020.
