Villanova & Delaware: Series History

Delaware Blue Hens: Quick Download

Expected to be a middle-of-the-road squad in the CAA, the Blue Hens stroll into the Battle of the Blue with a 7-4 record including 4-3 in the conference. The season's frst losses had been at Navy and conference leaders Maine, but a pair of loses to Richmond and William & Mary have Delaware scrambling to end 2013 on a positive note.

Delaware provides a balanced offensive attack (they are #5 in the conference in passing and rushing offense) that is second in the CAA in scoring at 32.6 points per game.

On the ground, Andrew Pierce crossed the 1,000 yard mark in the 'Hens last game as he averaging just over 70 yards a game.

Through the air, Trent Hurley has passed for nearly 2,000 yards and 20 TDs along with 7 interceptions. MIchael Johnson is his main target with 52 receptions that have totaled 908 yards and accounted for 35% of Hurley's TD passes.

Defensively, Delaware's pass defense is 9th in the conference surrendering 248 yards per game and 23 touchdowns this season. Their rush defense is giving up just under 180 ground yards per game (8th in CAA).

Coach

Dave Brock is in his first season at the helm for the Blue Hens. Brock's pedigree is one of various assistant levels of BCS schools North Carolina, Kansas State, Boston College, and most recently as the Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers coach at Rutgers.

Notable Alumni

There are currently eight former Blue Hens in the NFL; MIke Adams (SF), Marcus Burley (Jacksonville), Pat Devlin (Miami), Joe Flacco (Baltimore), Gino Gradkowski (Baltimore), Ronald Talley (Arizona), Anthony Walters (Chicago), and Pat Worrilow (Atlanta).

Nobel Prize (Biology) winner Daniel Nathans, Jeopardy Champion Roger Craig, astronaut Lodewijk van den Berg, and  Robert W. Gore, Inventor of Gore-Tex fabrics are all alumns of the Newark, DE campus.
